Un-Chartered Communications has been formed to design a mission to the moon in order to compete for the Google Lunar X-Prize competition. As defined by the official competition guidelines, a successful mission will include the following[1]:
- Safe landing on the moon
- Roaming across the surface of the moon for at least 500 meters.
- Transmission of photographs, real-time video, HD video, and cached data in the form of an email
To meet these goals the areas of communications, power systems, propulsion systems, rover design, and orbital mechanics have been focused on with a strong emphasis placed on communications.
