Venus Orbiter unit
There are two dish
antennas on the Orbiter unit: an L-band (1.5 GHz) High Gain Antenna (HGA) with
a diameter of 2m (ten times the wavelength of transmission). With an efficiency
of 80%, the gain of this antenna is 25.53dB. The receiver antenna is designed
with a higher aperture so that the receiver antenna gain is increased,
resulting in higher received power.
Also, a quarter wavelength monopole antenna will be on-board the Orbiter unit. This will be used by the Earth station to transmit command and tracking operations to the satellite even when the satellite dish is not oriented towards the earth.
