Line with a Big Mismatch

This 50 W line is connected to a high-impedance load (250 W), creating a larger reflection coefficient of G=0.67.

Big Mismatch Voltages

Notes:
  • Now there is a very obvious mix of traveling and standing waves on this line.
  • The greater the mismatch at the load, the more sensitive the equivalent circuit of the transmission line (as seen from the source) becomes to the line length.  Since this line is exactly 4l in length, the equivalent impedance of the line, Zin, looks exactly like ZL.  If the line were shortened just a little, the effective impedance would look much smaller.
