Plane Wave with Vertical Polarization
This animation shows a side view of the uniform, vertically-polarized plane wave.  The dark arrows represent the electric field and the light arrows represent the magnetic field.  The larger arrow represents the direction of propagation.
Notes:
  • This view shows the traveling-wave nature of the uniform plane wave in a simple, sourceless medium.  You can see the peaks of the E- and H-fields ripple forward with time.
  • Consider the fact that we are viewing a 10-dimensional physical model!  All quantities shown are functions of 3D space.  Furthermore, both electric and magnetic fields are 3D vector quantities.  Finally, we have to take into consideration the time dependency.  That's 3 (space) + 3 (E-field) + 3 (H-field) + 1 (time) = 10 physical dimensions!
