Plane Wave with Circular Polarization |
This animation shows a side view section of a uniform plane wave with right-handed circular polarization (RHCP) propagating towards the right-side of the screen. |
Notes: |
- The circularly polarized plane wave seems to corkscrew its way through space. If you can visualize only the vertical components of the fields or only the horizontal components of the field, then this wave is producing sinusoidal traveling waves just like the linearly-polarized cases.
- Circularly-polarized plane waves are unique among polarization cases since the amplitudes of their fields do not vary with respect to time. Only their orientation in space changes.
