Discussion
There is an ambiguity in the number of iterations used to converge the answer.
This ambiguity involves a tradeoff between processing time and solution
accuracy. We addressed this with the extra processing power available on
the school PCs to ensure an accurate solution. It should be noted that this
is not a viable solution on a handheld GPS receiver.
Since we do not know the confidence interval of the pseudo-ranges, we can not
establish an absolute confidence interval on our estimate. Within the solution
however, the confidence interval is quite small because the only source of error
is the initial guess.
Therefore, an approximate confidence interval would be a few meters assuming reliable pseudo-ranges.
None of the real world factors were considered. Our group took the pseudo-ranges
to be reliable when in the real world they are not, due to multi-path fading and
ionosphere delay among many others.
