Power - Lander Stirling Engine (page 2 of 2)

We will be using an Radio-isotope Thermal Generator (RTG) with seven General Purpose Heat Sources (GPHS). The GPHSs will make use of Plutonium which yield 250W of thermal energy.

The primary purpose of the RTG is to power the cooling for the lander. A small portion of the power generated will be used for the always on electronics. Additionally, some of the power will be used to trickle charge the NaS batteries thus extending the possible mission lifetime. A detailed block diagram the power breakdown can be seen in the Usage tab.
