Power - Lander Battery (page 1 of 2)

The lander will be powered by a combination of batteries and an RTG. 


We will be using two Sodium Sulfer (NaS) batteries as shown below:

The reason we have chosen the NaS battery for its high operating temperature, life cycle, and W/kg. Since NaS batteries have an operating temperature of 290-360 C we will not need to cool them very much. As such we can put them inside the outer-shell of the lander thus saving space and reducing the number of components insde the inner-shell. The primary purpose for these batteries are to power the drill for the seismometer and the communications.
