Martian Positioning System (MPS)
Location Systems:
First and foremost we would like to thank Professor Dan Stancil of Carnegie Mellon University and his PhD students for supporting us in the design and testing of our GPS Receiver. If you would like to learn more about Project REAL, click here.
Our antenna design performed very well achieving a peak gain of 9.5 dB at zero degrees. Our antenna has a span of +/- 62.5 degrees before dropping below 0 dB. This antenna provides us with a location estimate accuracy of within +/- 3.52 meters and a broad view of the Martian sky enabling us to use fewer GPS satellites and in essence save money!
