Not only does it provide connections between satellites, but most importantly, it also transmits data needed by the receiver on Mars surface to correctly pinpoint its position. The communication system consists of four majors parts: the receiver antenna, satellite-to-satellite link, MPS link (satellite-to-receiver link) and satellite to Earth link.
