Martian Global Positioning System

Tech2Mars Design Team
ECE 6390
Fall, 2008, Prof. Durgin

Tech2Mars is an engineering design team formed to design a complete Martian satellite positioning system involving every aspect of the design from launch to handheld receiver. The Tech2Mars team has developed a comprehensive navigation solution that can provide better than 5 meter accuracy anywhere on the Martian surface and a 1 Mbps data link back to Earth using the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN).

The Martian Global Positioning System involves time difference of arrival based satellite navigation. The use of robust coding, modulation, and well-designed orbits allows the Tech2Mars design to cut costs. By using the minimal number of satellites and the most efficient communication methods, Tech2Mars can provide a complete cost-effective solution for Martian navigation.
