Overview

Among many other factors, the success of the Space Buster exoplanetary mission relies on the ability of the electronics of the probe to withstand the harsh environment of space. On Earth, the atmosphere and magnetosphere act as a shield against extreme temperatures and levels of radiation that exists in space. Unfortunately, these sources of protection aren't present away from the Earth, and deep space probes require unique design considerations. NASA and other aerospace entities will be invaluable resources in obtaining solutions to this problem.

Several commercial companies specialize in providing space hardening products. Silicon Space Technology provides solutions for radiation related challenges. Space hardening the equipment will likely increase the total cost of the electronics fourfold.
