Even with the WAAS system, other sources of error will remain, such as Receiver Noise and Multipath. These two error sources typically constitute the noise floor for DGPS and WAAS systems because there is little correlation between the observed effects at the WAAS/DGPS station and at the mobile receiver [1].
Because of the lack of vegetation and human influence, the surface of Mars is flat relative to that of the Earth. This, however, doesn’t completely eliminate all sources of multipath. For example, multipath can be at its worst when communicating satellites are close to the horizon. Also, high multipath scenarios would exist inside of a canyon or near an enormous mountain. To mitigate these effects, a receiver processing technique known as Narrow Correlator Spacing can be used to reduce these effects to approximately 1m. |
