Overview
The communications link for the IRIS Project Space Solar Power Satellite serves the purpose of providing Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) as well as providing a means of accessing system diagnostic and maintenance. Compared to other services provided by satellites, such as communications or information satellites, the data rate requirements of the link are not as high. This allows for more flexibility in optimizing the system for the high security requirement of operating a space solar power solution.
The satellite communications system and link characteristics is summarized in Table C1 and are further discussed in their appropriate sub-sections.
